About The Position

Atkore is seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor for its Harvey, Illinois facility. The role supervises and leads machine operating staff, with a focus on teamwork, continuous improvement, and full ownership of shift safety, quality, delivery, and productivity performance. The position reports to the Value Stream Manager and works the first shift, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with occasional Saturdays. The supervisor will lead teams using the Atkore Business System and Lean Daily Management, develop team engagement and performance, support cross-training, and coach employees in problem-solving and continuous improvement. The role also manages vacation schedules and overtime and partners with Safety, Quality, and HR on investigations and corrective actions. Over the first year, the supervisor is expected to complete onboarding, assume daily shift-management responsibilities, lead Lean activities and training, and drive improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
1–3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
Manufacturing operations experience.
High energy, strong work ethic, schedule flexibility, and ability to work additional hours based on business needs.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, including conflict resolution.
Continuous-improvement background, such as Lean, WCM, or GMP, and interest in growing Lean experience.
Ability to thrive in an environment focused on problem-solving throughout the day.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree.
Experience in Lean manufacturing or at a business-system-based company.
Experience in steel manufacturing or tube forming.
Experience or background in human resources management in a unionized environment.
Appreciation for inventory control and process control.

Responsibilities

Lead teams using the Atkore Business System and Lean Daily Management, applying Lean tools to improvement projects focused on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
Develop plans and strategies to improve team-member engagement, alignment, and performance within the value stream.
Maintain a positive team atmosphere through regular meetings, task assignments, empowered decision-making, and coordination of support services.
Implement cross-training to support work-cell operations and maximize team potential.
Develop and coach team members in identifying problems, conducting root-cause analyses, and implementing countermeasures and solutions.
Manage vacation schedules and overtime.
Lead by example and uphold Atkore’s values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence.
Supervise the team’s daily requirements and manage the shift without guidance.
Review and sign off on hour-by-hour boards, send daily production reports, and facilitate KPI board reviews.
Take ownership of the shift’s Lean Daily Management, including Tier 1 Gemba and KPI boards.
Partner with Safety, Quality, and HR to investigate and provide corrective actions for workplace injuries, customer complaints, and labor-relations issues.
Lead team training sessions and coach for performance, behavior, and culture.
Lead an efficient team that meets or exceeds SQDC performance goals; identify gaps and implement counteractions.
Own formal improvement tracking and action plans; create or update reports, training materials, and procedures as needed.
Drive Lean Transformation for the shift and initiate and implement projects to improve SQDC.
Hold meaningful conversations with direct reports to improve engagement, alignment, performance, and development.
