About The Position

The Manufacturing Supervisor leads daily production for an assigned team to achieve output, quality, on-time delivery, and safety targets that meet customer requirements. This role manages staffing and shift coverage, coaches and develops employees, owns team KPIs and training compliance, and drives continuous improvement and cost control in partnership with the Production Manager. The supervisor collaborates cross-functionally to resolve process issues, reviews and dispositions nonconforming product per procedure, and ensures audit and policy compliance. They foster a positive, inclusive culture, maintain a clean and compliant work environment, and steward departmental resources and vendor performance to meet business goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing and continuous improvement tools.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to supervise, coach and develop hourly employees.
  • Able to analyze production metrics and lead data-driven process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach, train, and coach others.
  • Able to read and write in English fluently and do basic arithmetic.
  • Proficient use of a computer and experience with Windows software.
  • Translate strategic objectives into specific, measurable daily/shift goals and action plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and awareness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a digital ERP/MES.
  • U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents (green card holders) or foreign nationals granted refugee or asylee status.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or an engineering discipline, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of additive manufacturing experience.
  • Experience leading a team of at least 5 employees.
  • LEAN manufacturing experience or certification.
  • Familiarity with quality systems and standards such as ISO 9001:2015, ISO AS9100, and ISO 13485:2016
  • Previous experience with applicable additive technology group.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations for the assigned team/department to achieve production targets, on-time delivery, quality standards and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage staffing levels, shift coverage and workload distribution to meet operational requirements.
  • Coach, develop and recognize team members; manage performance including corrective action and completion of mid-year and annual reviews in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Own team KPIs and operational metrics, ensuring they are measurable and accurate, and communicate the expectations to the team.
  • Exemplify and enforce all departmental and company policies and procedures, ensuring all team members have a full understanding of these policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Ensure training programs and work instructions are current; maintain employee training records and ensure compliance with training requirements.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives for the team in partnership with the Production Manager; drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support identification and implementation of cost-saving opportunities; assist the Production Manager with cost control and budget adherence.
  • Monitor and understand the departmental budget and operate efficiently and strategically with spending.
  • Serve as the final reviewer, as needed, for CQE-determined defective parts (including tolerance and acceptance decisions) per standard procedures.
  • Coordinate with other departments like Finishing, Build, Tech Ops, CPS, Engineering and/or others to resolve production/process issues and meet customer needs.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits and inspections; ensure corrective actions are completed and documented.
  • Manage relationships with vendors performing work in the department; ensure vendor work meets quality, schedule and safety expectations.
  • Lead shift meetings/huddles with team members, providing business and departmental updates.
  • Maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities clearly and hold team accountable for results.
  • Promote and sustain a positive, inclusive and professional workplace culture.
  • Maintain a clean and safe production environment.
  • Observe and enforce all Protolabs Safety and Quality policies and procedures, including use of any required PPE (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed footwear, etc.) and on time completion of safety/compliance training.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
