About The Position

Our Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of optical solutions. This segment is divided into carrier network and enterprise network product groups, serving diverse communication infrastructure needs. The Role Purpose is to manage manufacturing and engineering operations, plant-level operational improvement projects, capital investments, and continuous improvement efforts. The goal is to achieve safety, cost, quality, asset effectiveness, inventory, service, and growth targets, while also developing organizational capability and supporting business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field required with a minimum 4–5 years of successful supervisory, team leader and/or section supervisor experience in manufacturing plant environment.
  • Experience developing, implementing and driving results for MBOs and manufacturing line metrics.
  • Proven capability to manage, coach, direct and develop salaried exempt and nonexempt employees.
  • Training or demonstrated competence in employee effectiveness, conflict resolution, coaching, listening skills and supervisory effectiveness.
  • Training, understanding and demonstrated competence in cost accounting and managing for profitability.
  • Trained and experienced in fundamentals of safety and health.
  • Experience managing talent development strategy, including programs to attract, develop and retain key talent.

  • Exposure to multiple manufacturing processes, corporate networks and resources.
  • Experience leading or participating in cross-functional manufacturing teams responsible for key improvement initiatives or cost reduction programs.
  • Experience supporting innovation, new product development and launch into manufacturing.

  • Experience leading Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Maintenance or Technical organizations.

  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, TPM or equivalent continuous improvement certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Champion process control and change management efforts to adapt to upstream and downstream operational changes, improve process capability and reduce variation.
  • Provide leadership to team leaders, Supply Chain, technicians, engineers and support functions, including effective resource management and talent development.
  • Lead Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities and Technical Support functions to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations.
  • Communicate and report department progress to plant staff and division leadership.
  • Build strong relationships with support groups including Engineering, IT, Supply Chain, Quality and EHS to optimize and continually improve production performance.
  • Approve process and equipment changes, experimental plans, process improvements, new product trial runs, equipment/tooling redesigns and material, batch or component changes.
  • Drive engineering and manufacturing improvements focused on productivity, quality, reliability, automation, cost reduction and process stability.
  • Sponsor and oversee capital projects, equipment upgrades, facility improvements and new technology implementation.
  • Promote organizational effectiveness through innovation and improvements in manufacturing and business processes using defined processes and tools.
  • Deploy a positive employee relations strategy and communicate openly and honestly with employees at all levels.
  • Coordinate and integrate the work of multiple functional groups and systems to produce goods and services while achieving manufacturing targets.
  • Ensure production operations are efficient and effective, while understanding and driving improvement in manufacturing and support processes.
