About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for its innovations that push boundaries. The Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of optical solutions. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of activities in production areas to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives. It involves prioritizing production schedules, directing subordinates, and interacting with peer groups and management. The role provides immediate supervision, assigning tasks and checking work, and a portion of time is spent on individual tasks. It encompasses directing and inspecting the performance of individuals or teams in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school education and 5+ years relevant work experience.
  • Effective communicator: peers, subordinates, and leadership.
  • Capacity to learn complex manufacturing process flow and/or systems.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Inquisitive problem-solving skills.
  • High individual initiative and self-management.
  • Must be able to see, hear, speak, and move about a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to perceive heat and cold.
  • Must maintain a significant level of cognitive function to solve complex problems.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-year degree preferred in engineering with a preference for chemical, materials, or mechanical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and leads production operations teams 24/7.
  • Serves as a champion for safety culture.
  • Coordinates prioritization of product manufacturing and equipment troubleshooting needs.
  • Holds team of operators and shift technicians accountable to established metrics.
  • Maintains equipment schedules.
  • Manages timecards.
  • Posts and fills overtime slots.
  • Addresses personnel concerns.
  • Communicates with all employee levels at the plant.
  • Provides solutions to complex and dynamic problems.
  • Serves as incident commander for plant spill alarms.
