Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required
  • 5+ years’ experience working in a low mix/low volume metal fabrication manufacturing environment is required
  • 3+ years’ experience leading/supervising small groups (Team Leader, Group Leader, Supervisor) is required
  • Reliable transportation
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates high level of Emotional Intelligence when dealing with all levels of the company, clients, and vendors
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn other software
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • Ability to effectively manage time, multi-task, and pay close attention to details
  • Self-motivated professional with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Regularly required to move, sit, and bend for various hours throughout the day

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive technical knowledge of how machines (metal forming, machining, welding, general assembly stations) operate is preferred
  • Exposure to advanced safety concepts or Lean Management experience is preferred
  • Experience in a union manufacturing environment preferred but not required
  • Proficient knowledge EPR systems, Epicor preferred

Responsibilities

  • Planning and organizing the hour-by-hour activities for 2nd Shift manufacturing associates to meet quality, delivery, and cost expectations.
  • Ensuring all associates work safely and resolving any hazards quickly.
  • Executing production plans and monitoring job run times.
  • Ensuring active communication with supporting departments and 1st Shift staff.
  • Following through on the production plan hour by hour, and daily activities for manufacturing associates, utilizing the strengths of Lead personnel to help accomplish goals and workflow.
  • Providing technical support to the production floor by resolving issues as they arise.
  • Ensuring compliance with daily department schedules to meet shipments on a consistent basis.
  • Monitoring, identifying, and documenting run times and process improvements of shop and production.
  • Monitoring workflow, overseeing and directing production, and auditing Job Paperwork, Routings, Log sheets, Process Control Sheets (PCS), Work Instructions (WI) for conformity and accuracy.
  • Documenting workflow, achievements, and notes for 1st shift hand-off.
  • Communicating and coordinating with Engineering, Quality, and other support areas as production issues arise.
  • Reviewing all jobs prior to submittal for final inspection ensuring parts are made to print, parts are properly claimed, and part counts are correct.
  • Ensuring operators perform set-ups as required to meet production schedule.
  • Following safety policies and procedures and ensuring subordinates do the same.
  • Supporting all manufacturing functions including troubleshooting and problem-solving in all areas of manufacturing.
  • Providing recommendations and periodic updates as needed to management regarding the status of production.
  • Utilizing reporting and analytics to make data-driven decisions to meet production needs.
  • Attending trainings, meetings, and participating in continuous improvement programs.
  • Holding Shop Team accountable to goals and objectives set by the Company and Operations Manager.
  • Participating in union activities such as contract negotiation, grievances, etc.
  • Training and mentoring new team members and being an ambassador of our culture.
  • Delegating job assignments and reviewing workload as necessary.
  • Maintaining employee schedules such as approving time-off & staff coverage.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources for employee performance discussions, recruitment needs, hiring, and terminations.
  • Working to resolve interpersonal issues and conflicts as they arise.
  • Advocating a safe and professional work environment.
