About The Position

To manage daily manufacturing operations. This role involves identifying the necessary resources for manufacturing and fabrication to meet customer needs, managing equipment and machinery requirements including maintenance and repairs, and defining manufacturing processes in collaboration with the General Manager. The position also entails working with leadership on priorities and schedules, leading problem-solving efforts for efficient work execution, and providing input on equipment and tooling needs for performance improvements. Additionally, the role includes managing direct reports through performance reviews and development, ensuring accuracy in time reporting and material usage, and overseeing on-time delivery by providing job status updates. The Manufacturing Plant Manager is responsible for preparing and analyzing production reports, controlling costs to meet budget goals, communicating work policies to employees, and reporting issues on drawings to relevant departments. This role also involves recognizing employee achievements, managing safety policies and programs with HR, supporting manufacturing quality standards, overseeing rework and non-conformance reporting, and identifying training needs for direct reports and shop employees. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Bachelors degree in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing, business administration or similar/related program required
  • In lieu of bachelor’s degree, a combination of an associate’s degree with proven work experience in metal fabrication industry with hands on operation and supervision responsibilities in multiple fabrication processes may be substituted; specifically in welding, machining, finishing and press brake operations
  • Seven + years’ experience in managing production operations and knowledge regarding manufacturing and employment regulations, policies, practices, and procedures
  • Ten + years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems; Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine) preferred
  • Accurate manufacturing blue print reading experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Production or engineering experience in a custom sheet metal fabrication business is desired
  • Previous experience working on military projects is preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with fabrication and machining specifications preferred
  • Knowledge of metals and raw materials along with the understanding of production processes, quality control, and costs of manufacturing is a plus
  • Experience in quickly ascertaining a situation and be decisive in implementation of problem solving measures
  • Proven ability to unify multiple departments and personnel to accomplish required goals and tasks
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants
  • Knowledge of industry principles such as lean manufacturing and six sigma methodologies is preferred
  • Ability to view and understand drawings in AutoCAD and SolidWorks desired
  • Working knowledge of American Welding Society and Military welding procedures and specifications preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily manufacturing operations - identify number and kind of resources needed to successfully manufacture/fabricate to customer needs
  • Manage daily equipment and machinery needs - identify needs for new, replacement, scheduled maintenance, repairs, cleaning, tooling, hand tools, supplies, consumables to support manufacturing/fabrication processes
  • Define manufacturing/fabrication methods and processes used to with General Manager
  • Works with Leadership, sales, and program management on priorities and schedule for shop
  • Lead and guide problem solving on how to efficiently perform work - methods, equipment, tooling, techniques, jigs, fixtures, etc.
  • Provide input to the General Manager on needs for manufacturing equipment, tools, methods, or processes that will support improvements in performance
  • Manage performance of direct reports through performance reviews, employee development, compensation, stated objectives and goals
  • Manage accuracy of time reporting and material usage on jobs
  • On-time delivery, provide job status and estimate of completion dates
  • Work with manufacturing team on schedules, resources, risks, manufacturing methods, specialty processes
  • Prepare, analyze and issue production and performance reports
  • Control costs to achieve company budget goals
  • Provide verbal reminders to employees about work policies. Work start times, safety, work behavior, values, etc.
  • Provides feedback to General Manager on workload levels, types, and available capacity
  • Reports issues on drawings to sales, programmer, supervisor, quality leader
  • Recognize and reward an employee for extra effort or an outstanding job or idea that proves very successful
  • Manage, lead and guide safety policies and programs with Human Resources team
  • Support quality of manufacturing standards and initiatives
  • Oversee rework and enter non-conformances
  • Oversee preventive maintenance
  • Identify training gaps of direct reports and shop employees and recommend development training for shop employees
