About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking individuals to transform the future of flight by designing, building, and servicing engines. This 2nd Shift Opportunity (Monday - Thursday, 4 -10 hour shifts, 3:30pm-1:30am) is designed for individuals with little or no machining or grinding background to gain the skills needed to become a Certified Operator. The role involves a 3-week training program followed by 4-8 weeks of on-the-job training. Employees will learn to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes, or VTCs, work from various documentation to set up equipment for machining operations, verify work using precision instruments, obtain operator certification, perform machine maintenance (TPM), and collaborate with engineers and other personnel to resolve machining problems and assist in process development. The position requires the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Employees will gain skills, systems, and processes critical to aerospace manufacturing in a state-of-the-art facility, with training and advancement opportunities, and on-the-job training using advanced technology.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English

Nice To Haves

  • 1 + years of manufacturing, automotive or related trade experience
  • Ability to make computations involving decimals and fractions
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Learn to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes or VTC’s to perform routine production operations on a variety of similar weldments and assemblies.
  • Learn to work from operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instruction to set up equipment for grinding, turning, facing, boring and/or chamfering operations involving a limited number of surfaces to be machined.
  • Learn to verify conformance of finished work to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Obtain operator Certification to be able to accept/reject parts.
  • Learn to maintain machines by performing required total preventive maintenance (TPM).
  • Learn to work collaboratively with engineers, quality assurance, programmers and other production personnel or others to resolve machining problems and assist in part process development.
