About The Position

As a Manufacturing Supervisor for General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) Precision Structures & Optics (PSO) located in Cullman, AL, you’ll be a member of a cross functional team responsible for providing daily front-line supervision and support for a team of technicians which includes planning and scheduling work, adhering to schedules and budgets, reviewing work processes, providing updates to management and key stakeholders, and the completion of staff performance appraisals. This includes maintaining quality control standards and implementing safety procedures. Manufacturing Supervisors manage materials, equipment, and personnel to optimize productivity and minimize waste. At General Dynamics Mission Systems we manufacture Beryllium products for use in the most demanding applications, across the aerospace, defense, and nuclear industries. Our products are used in high performance sensing systems for targeting and acquisition, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, and are hardened for the battlefield environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations.
  • Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledgeable in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Detail oriented and meticulous in ensuring precision and accuracy in all tasks
  • Excellent communicator, capable of conveying technical information clearly and effectively
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently
  • Committed to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest industry advancements
  • Strong sense of responsibility and dedication to maintaining high safety and quality standards

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily machining operations, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards
  • Supervise and train machining team members, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
  • Mentor and develop team members, enhancing their skills and career growth
  • Regularly assess performance of team members to established processes and procedures
  • Coordinate with the Engineering and Quality departments to resolve any production issues
  • Implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs
  • Continuously improve machining processes and reduce production lead times
  • Experience managing tight production schedules while maintaining high quality and safety standards
  • Stay updated with rapidly evolving machining technologies and techniques
  • Ability to balance the demands of production efficiency with the need for meticulous quality control
