About The Position

Repairs and maintains machinery and electromechanical equipment in packaging, processing, distribution and plant infrastructure. Trains and mentors lesser skilled maintenance mechanics. This role involves installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, lubricating, and troubleshooting complex processing and high-speed packaging machinery and other equipment in the facility such as gear boxes, variable speed drives, pumps and compressors, dust collecting equipment, code daters, check weighers, etc. It also includes performing predictive and preventative maintenance activities as outlined in the CMMS system, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting all types of A/C and D/C electrical equipment, and fabricating components using standard shop equipment. The mechanic will operate production equipment as part of troubleshooting and validation of completed maintenance activity, assist Engineering in installation of new equipment, and work with technical support, the operations group, and peer mechanics to resolve problematic machine or personnel issues. Additionally, the role involves helping maintain spare parts inventory and shop areas, actively participating in root cause analysis and other plant continuous improvement initiatives, and occasionally performing work in other areas such as building maintenance. Compliance with safety and cGMP requirements, including following Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LO/TO) procedures and wearing all personal protective equipment as directed by Company Safety Policy, is essential.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school plus a minimum of two years of related experience OR a minimum five years related experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of machine troubleshooting, electrical, mechanical, fabrication, pneumatics, hydraulics, OSHA standards, cGMP’s, lock-out/tag-out.
  • Demonstrated strong working knowledge and ability to repair packaging and processing production equipment within one year from the date of employment.
  • Solid knowledge of machine capabilities, manufacturing process, and ability to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to train and mentor other employees (including lesser skilled maintenance mechanics).

  • Possesses a working knowledge of electrical test equipment such as digital multimeter, amp probe, megger, etc.
  • Ability to work other shifts and weekends and to travel to other facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, operates, maintains, repairs, lubricates, and troubleshoots complex processing and high-speed packaging machinery and other equipment in the facility such as gear boxes, variable speed drives, pumps and compressors, dust collecting equipment, code daters, check weighers, etc.
  • Performs predictive and preventative maintenance activities as outlined in the CMMS system.
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots all types of A/C and D/C electrical equipment.
  • Fabricates components using standard shop equipment including: lathe, mill, drill press, brake, shear, band saw, and various welding equipment.
  • Operates production equipment as part of troubleshooting, and validation of completed maintenance activity.
  • Assists Engineering in installation of new equipment. Works from drawings, verbal instructions and/or sketches.
  • Works with technical support, the operations group, and peer mechanics to resolve problematic machine or personnel issues.
  • Helps maintain spare parts inventory for plant as directed by checking out parts form parts room, using parts ordering procedure, and restocking inventory.
  • Helps maintain shop areas and parts room so they are clean and orderly.
  • Actively participates in root cause analysis and other plant continuous improvement initiatives. Recommends and implements continuous improvement ideas.
  • Occasionally performs work in other areas such as building maintenance.
  • Complies with safety and cGMP requirements. Follows (LO/TO) all Safety procedures and wears all personal protective equipment as directed by Company Safety Policy.
  • Supports a culture of safe production and exhibits safe work practices.
  • Actively participates in the safety program by engaging in safety activities.
  • Effectively provides and accepts constructive peer-to-peer feedback on safety performance.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, SOP’s, safe work practices, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Reports ALL workplace incidents to supervisor immediately.
  • Communicates concerns to supervisor, reports hazards, and provides input on prevention.
  • Properly uses, wears, and stores Personal Protective Equipment when required.
  • Participates on safety teams and/or completes safety-related activities as part of regular job responsibilities.
