About The Position

Ferrotec (USA) Corporation is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Hardware Test Engineer to support hardware testing and manufacturing in a production environment. The role focuses primarily on production hardware testing, troubleshooting, failure analysis, fault isolation, and test-related continuous improvement, with additional responsibility for manufacturing engineering support. This is not a software test engineering position. The engineer independently investigates electrical, electronic, and electromechanical failures using schematics, drawings, specifications, procedures, test logs, and diagnostic equipment. They identify the failure location and root cause, which may involve product hardware, components or supplier materials, workmanship, manufacturing processes, test fixtures or equipment, interfaces, or test methodology. The role also involves analyzing test data and failure trends; supporting root cause analysis, containment, and corrective actions; maintaining troubleshooting and diagnostic documentation; and improving test stations, fixtures, instrumentation, yield, reliability, repeatability, and cycle time. The position supports production, new product introduction, product transfers, qualification and pilot builds, manufacturing troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. It works cross-functionally with internal teams, customers, and suppliers, and requires communicating technical findings and tracking actions through closure. The engineer must be able to work fully on-site in a hands-on manufacturing environment. Other related duties may be assigned, and duties may change at management’s discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant technical experience may be considered.
  • 4–8 years of hands-on Hardware Test Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with hardware troubleshooting, manufacturing test, failure analysis, test equipment, and root cause investigation.
  • Ability to work 100% on-site in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting complex electrical or electromechanical products, semiconductor equipment, robotics, automation, or capital equipment.
  • Experience working directly with customers and suppliers on technical failures, corrective actions, and engineering changes.

Responsibilities

  • Own production hardware testing, troubleshooting, failure analysis, fault isolation, and test-related continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and electromechanical failures using schematics, drawings, specifications, test procedures, logs, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Determine what failed, where and why it failed, and whether the cause relates to hardware, components or supplier materials, workmanship, manufacturing processes, test equipment, fixtures, interfaces, or test methodology.
  • Analyze test data, logs, error codes, and failure trends; lead or support root cause analysis, 5-Why, Fishbone, 8D, CAPA, containment, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and improve product troubleshooting guides, diagnostic procedures, failure libraries, test instructions, and lessons learned.
  • Support test stations, fixtures, instrumentation, and troubleshooting equipment, and drive improvements in first-pass yield, test yield, reliability, repeatability, and cycle time.
  • Train and support technicians in standardized troubleshooting and test methods.
  • Develop sufficient understanding of externally controlled and customer test systems to interpret test sequences, specifications, limits, fixtures, instrumentation, acceptance criteria, logs, error codes, results, and failure conditions.
  • Communicate test findings to customers, suppliers, and internal teams using appropriate technical language and align on failure mechanisms, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Identify and escalate suspected problems with customer test scripts, specifications, test limits, fixtures, or equipment using objective technical evidence.
  • Attend and support customer, supplier, failure-analysis, test, engineering, qualification, and production meetings, and track assigned actions through closure.
  • Support production, new product introduction, product transfers, qualification and pilot builds, manufacturing troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Investigate assembly, workmanship, tooling, fixture, material, documentation, and process-related issues.
  • Support development and improvement of work instructions, manufacturing and test procedures, process controls, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Evaluate manufacturing and test impacts of engineering changes, including inventory exposure, work-in-process, tooling, fixtures, documentation, training, and implementation requirements.
  • Review technical dispositions and support resolution of material, workmanship, supplier, and engineering-related production issues, including containment, corrective actions, and implementation.
  • Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Planning, Program Management, customers, and suppliers.
  • Maintain an overriding commitment to quality, help drive organizational change, and perform other reasonably assigned related duties.
