About The Position

The Manufacturing Excellence Industrial Engineering Intern will support the development and deployment of digital tools that improve workforce planning, data usability, and standardized work across GM manufacturing operations. A primary focus is converting files and workflows from Microsoft Office tools to Google Workspace while preserving data integrity and functionality, standardizing templates, and documenting practical usage of Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Drive. The intern will also support development and deployment of a digitized Global Workbook Manpower Tracking tool, including requirements gathering, solution development, testing, user guidance, rollout, and adoption. The intern will work with the Manufacturing Excellence IE team, which develops scalable processes, standards, and digital solutions for GM manufacturing operations. The role involves collaboration with plant operations, manufacturing and industrial engineering, IT, and other cross-functional stakeholders. Work may include converting and piloting legacy workforce-planning files, supporting launch of the manpower tracking tool, checking data quality, documenting processes and standardized work, analyzing workforce and productivity measures, and assisting with pilot, deployment, and continuous-improvement activities. This is a hybrid internship based at the GM Global Technical Center – Cole Engineering Center Tower in Warren, Michigan. The successful candidate is expected to report onsite at least three times per week and travel to GM manufacturing facilities as needed.
