Manufacturing Excellence Engineer

CACI International•Danbury, CT
•$105,100 - $231,100

About The Position

The Manufacturing Excellence Engineer is the site-level practitioner responsible for deploying and sustaining CACI’s enterprise Operational Excellence (Manufacturing Excellence) framework at an assigned manufacturing facility. The role translates strategy set by the VP, Manufacturing Excellence and the corporate Manufacturing Excellence team into hands-on site execution, including Kaizen and Rapid Improvement Events, Lean and Six Sigma projects, and coaching site personnel and supervisors in daily continuous improvement practices. This is a senior-level individual contributor role requiring more than 10 years of relevant experience. The engineer works directly on the production floor, facilitates improvement events with hourly and salaried teams, and serves as the site’s primary resource for Lean, Six Sigma, and event-based improvement methodology. The role follows corporate standard work, assessment methodology, and maturity model rather than developing a site-specific approach, and serves as an execution link between enterprise strategy and production-floor results. The position also supports site pilots of smart factory and digital manufacturing tools in accordance with the enterprise technology roadmap, and provides structured problem-solving support when urgent manufacturing issues arise. It may involve travel of up to 25%, with local travel.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of manufacturing engineering, continuous improvement, or operations experience, including direct experience in aerospace and defense or a comparably regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Demonstrated experience leading DMAIC projects to completion with measurable results.
  • Hands-on experience planning and facilitating Kaizen or Rapid Improvement Events, including events with cross-functional and hourly production teams.
  • Working knowledge of core Lean tools, including 5S, value stream mapping, standard work, visual management, SMED, and error-proofing, with direct production-floor application experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Comfort working directly on the production floor and facilitating change with production supervisors and hourly teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Exposure to AS9100/NADCAP-governed manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with smart factory and digital manufacturing concepts, including MES/MOM, IIoT, and digital work instructions, and interest in supporting technology pilots.
  • Experience supporting or participating in structured problem-solving, including 8D and root cause/corrective action, for significant quality or delivery issues.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy the enterprise Manufacturing Excellence framework at the site, following corporate standard work, assessment methodology, and maturity model.
  • Support site leadership in preparing for and responding to Manufacturing Excellence maturity assessments and audits; ensure standard work and visual management are current and defensible.
  • Maintain site-level Manufacturing Excellence metrics and regularly report progress to site leadership and the corporate Manufacturing Excellence team.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the site and enterprise Manufacturing Excellence organization, escalating deployment barriers and sharing site-level lessons learned.
  • Plan, facilitate, and close out Kaizen and Rapid Improvement Events, from chartering through results tracking and sustainment.
  • Lead Six Sigma DMAIC improvement projects addressing site-level quality, cost, and delivery gaps, using appropriate statistical tools and rigor.
  • Apply Lean tools, including value stream mapping, 5S, standard work, visual management, error-proofing (poka-yoke), and SMED, to production lines and processes.
  • Coach and develop site supervisors, engineers, and hourly team members in Lean and Six Sigma fundamentals to build local capability.
  • Support site-level pilots of smart factory and digital manufacturing tools, including MES/MOM, digital work instructions, and IIoT-connected equipment, as directed by the enterprise technology roadmap.
  • Partner with site engineering and IT/OT resources to integrate new technology deployments into standard work.
  • Provide floor-level feedback on the usability and adoption of manufacturing technology to inform enterprise rollout decisions.
  • Provide site-level structured problem-solving support, such as 8D and containment, root cause, and corrective action, during urgent manufacturing issues under the direction of site leadership and the enterprise Manufacturing Excellence team.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective action closure for significant quality escapes, capacity shortfalls, or delivery risks affecting the site.
