About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a talented and self-motivated Environmental Waste Program Manager to support AWS Manufacturing, Test, and Operations (MOTO) facilities. The successful candidate will join the AWS Environmental team — an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS’s growth around the world, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance and the highest-level environmental performance of AWS’s manufacturing operations. This role sits within the MOTO Environmental organization and is responsible for managing waste program requirements and risk across the full manufacturing lifecycle — from equipment development and facility buildout through operations and decommissioning. You will collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards of environmental performance for our manufacturing facilities and our customers, and you will experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of best practices and emerging technologies, related to infrastructure (i.e. network, data center, hardware, software)
  • Experience with varying scenarios of infrastructure builds
  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental, or equivalent
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations in accordance with applicable laws
  • 5+ years with a focus on waste program development, deployment, implementation, and verification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the MOTO waste program evolves to meet changing organizational needs, stakeholder expectations, and environmental challenges.
  • Support leadership efforts and contribute to continuous improvement of the waste management program.
  • Champion environmental responsibility within MOTO and advocate for best-in-class waste practices across manufacturing sites.
  • Collaborate with environmental, operations, manufacturing execution, legal, policy, and sustainability teams to perform periodic reviews and updates.
  • Ensure the waste program remains relevant, effective, and aligned with evolving regulatory requirements across all MOTO facilities.
  • Build collaborative relationships with manufacturing execution, operations, and design teams to ensure waste risks are identified early and managed appropriately.
  • Support the ongoing identification and assessment of environmental risks identified through the waste program across the full MOTO lifecycle — from equipment development and facility buildout through to decommissioning.
  • Support the development and implementation of plans to address significant environmental risks and opportunities, contributing to improvement targets.
  • Develop new compliance programs for first-of-a-kind manufacturing operational processes generating novel waste streams.
  • Support the design and deployment of the MOTO waste program to enhance environmental performance and drive circular economy initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and other regulatory requirements applicable to waste management across manufacturing facilities.
  • Support associated environmental development training and awareness programs to embed waste management skills throughout the manufacturing organization.
  • Establish and manage a robust system for monitoring, measuring, and reporting performance of the MOTO waste program.
  • Conduct regular assessments of waste-related tools and processes being used across manufacturing sites; collate and analyze waste data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor, and forecast waste performance across MOTO facilities.
  • Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement purposes.
  • Prepare and contribute to performance reports and recommendations for senior leadership on a regular cadence.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the waste program by supporting management reviews, implementing corrective and preventative actions, and identifying innovative approaches to improve environmental performance.
  • Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations related to waste and develop appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assist in time-critical report submissions to various governmental agencies as required.
  • Manages waste compliance across MOTO manufacturing facilities — reviewing waste characterization data, coordinating with operations teams on proper handling and disposal, tracking regulatory deadlines, and maintaining waste manifests and records.
  • Supports audits, monitors waste metrics, troubleshoots disposal issues with vendors, and collaborates with manufacturing execution teams to ensure new processes meet waste regulations before going live.
