About The Position

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. As a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Responsible for providing process engineering support to all areas of 3M Old Hickory’s manufacturing operations to drive Safety, Quality, Service, and Cost. Monitoring and improving manufacturing operations using Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology (design of experiments, statistical process control, lean management system, kaizens, DMAIC). Working closely with production and maintenance teams to perform troubleshooting activities and resolve equipment/downtime issues. Drive understanding of key customer needs and monitors process capabilities. Utilize project management skills to organize and execute projects. Supporting self and peer technical growth via continuously learning and applying new skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Seven (7) years of advanced manufacturing experience in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Current, valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Five (5) years technical experience in polymer extrusion, web handling, fiber spinning, and slitting.
  • Skills include the ability to work with and lead cross functional Teams, troubleshoot problems and self-motivating.
  • Use of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean Six Sigma) to provide impact through cost reduction programs, quality improvements, and safety of work environments.
  • Communicate written and verbally clearly and concisely and influence changes with operators as well as other plant employees and management team members.
