This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will manage and help develop manufacturing processes and establish best practices for the company. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of manufacturing. Your responsibilities include managing a team of Manufacturing Engineers dedicated to Assembling Rocket Engines and helping support key manufacturing process development. Collaboration with other functions, sites, and departments is critical for success in this position. As a manager, you will lead a team in identifying, developing, and deploying methods to improve safety and quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence. From a technical aspect, your team will be responsible for the translation of engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into operational steps and processes to produce fully functional hardware. This includes influencing tooling and infrastructure to best support the product and setting up production lines to meet required delivery cadence. Your leadership will strengthen the feedback loop between design and manufacturing to accelerate the pace of rocket engine development through the use of DFMA and PFMEA studies. The permanent on-site location for this position is Huntsville, Alabama. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • Strong coordination, personnel, and project management skills
  • Ability to operate, make decisions, lead and make forward progress in ambiguous environments
  • 8 to 15 years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience (after graduation)
  • Proven experience developing/starting new manufacturing processes in the transition from R&D to higher rate production
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, MRP, ERP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
  • Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
  • Flexibility with regard to supporting multiple shifts
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science preferred
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or MBA
  • Programming experience with Robots, PLC’s or SQL for data querying and analysis
  • Demonstrated signature authority on aerospace drawings for flight programs, or other highly regulated industry
  • Experience with integration/configuration of ancillary support equipment to existing systems (mechanical/electrical)

Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of Manufacturing Engineers dedicated to Assembling Rocket Engines
  • Helping support key manufacturing process development
  • Leading a team in identifying, developing, and deploying methods to improve safety and quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence
  • Translating engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into operational steps and processes to produce fully functional hardware
  • Influencing tooling and infrastructure to best support the product
  • Setting up production lines to meet required delivery cadence
  • Strengthening the feedback loop between design and manufacturing through the use of DFMA and PFMEA studies
  • Experience leading engineers supporting production across multiple shifts and fostering individual development of goals and career paths to ensure professional development and accountability
  • Maintaining BOMs and manufacturing work instructions that clearly define manufacturing processes, particularly in large assembly environments
  • Utilizing practical lean manufacturing methods for process development and problem solving
  • Experience with more advanced and automated assembly methods, such as DC Torque Tools, Vision System Cameras, and Digital Work Instructions with electronic data collection for Process Control
  • Justifying, procuring, installing, and integrating custom manufacturing equipment
  • Performing capacity analysis and evaluating staffing requirements based on schedule and scope requirements
  • Leading root cause analyses and deploying corrective actions
