About The Position

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world. We are seeking talented students to join our Manufacture Engineering team in Los Angeles to support improvement initiatives, expand in-house manufacturing capabilities, and contribute to the design, build, and testing of flight and critical ground support hardware. This internship is available for Spring (January - April, ~16 weeks), Summer (May - August, ~12 weeks), and Fall (September - December, ~16 weeks) 2027.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university (undergraduate student in your third or fourth year of study, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program).
  • Practical experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through internships, studies, or projects.
  • Strong interest in vehicle hardware.
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
  • Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus's mission.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate designs for manufacturability and testing, providing feedback to the design team.
  • Design and implement tooling and test solutions to support component build and delivery.
  • Develop new processes and procedures to support flight hardware builds.
  • Manage projects and execute to tight timelines while effectively and proactively communicating with stakeholders.
  • Provide data-driven solutions to technical issues encountered during build.
  • Actively interface with technician and engineering teams to resolve product non-conformances and keep build on schedule.
  • Develop and refine floor layouts.
  • Support capacity modeling and time studies to identify and prioritize opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, subject matter experts, and technicians to solve large-scale and widespread production challenges.
