About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineering Department Manager will provide leadership of the engineering and technical resources required to support ongoing factory technical support, ensuring operational excellence across the various manufacturing processes from planning to transition to production, through production execution and customer support. This is a highly visible role and is expected to champion collaboration by bringing best in class solutions which deliver innovative manufacturing technologies and processes to create sustained growth while driving affordability. This position is in a fast-paced environment and is a key enabler for leading factory technical execution. This role is highly collaborative with cross-functional factory, program and engineering leaders to execute tactical and strategic goals. This role also collaborates with the Collins Mission Systems Manufacturing Engineering extended leadership team, working cohesively with the other manufacturing engineering leaders within the Collins Operations and Supply Chain organization to share best practices and to advance manufacturing engineering strategies. The ideal candidate will possess the demonstrated skills and experience necessary to perform in manufacturing engineering leadership roles.

Requirements

  • Typically require a university degree or equivalent experience and minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and a minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing operations or manufacturing engineering
  • 3+ years of prior leadership experience in manufacturing or engineering
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 20%

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience leading an engineering team in a DoD environment
  • Understanding of RTX product structures and product technical details.
  • Familiarity with documentation systems such as Common PDM to validate As-Built configurations, alternates, ECNs, and change history
  • Ability to communicate and present to all levels of the organization
  • Experience with CORE and lean manufacturing processes
  • Proven track record of positive financial performance / cost reduction

Responsibilities

  • People leader of ~50-60 Manufacturing engineers, including department staff of 5+ composed of Section Managers / Technical Leads located in Largo, FL.
  • Collaborate and build strong cross-functional teams to meet Largo factory goals, with direct responsibility for leading assembly and test instructions, yield improvements, technical issue investigation and root cause/corrective action, improvement of factory processes, and test equipment maintenance procedures, while supporting factory on-time delivery and cost targets.
  • Responsible for managing the department leadership team and technical staff, leading performance management activities, goal setting, career counseling, compensation planning, and employee training and talent development activities, while holding employees accountable to demonstrate RTX Values and Behaviors and adhering to the Code of Conduct.
  • Support site initiatives and strategy as a member of the Largo Site Leadership team
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of engineering talent with the competencies required to support execution of factory operations.
  • Support new business capture and successful factory transition by reviewing bids for any new production activities and participating in technology and manufacturing readiness reviews, providing design inputs for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
