HII Unmanned Systems is seeking an experienced professional to come join our manufacturing engineering group! We are looking for an individual to support the production of our autonomous systems. As a senior manufacturing engineer, you will be responsible for supporting production operations, resolving manufacturing issues, and driving continuous improvement for new and existing products. Leading a cross functional team of 5–10 manufacturing, electrical, and mechanical engineers, the candidate will be responsible for production issue response, failure analysis and corrective actions, design and process improvements, and product delivery support. Responsibilities may include the following: Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling. Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout. Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance. Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality. Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques. Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
  • Must have experience with management and defense manufacturing
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance

Responsibilities

  • Support production, sustaining, and new product introduction efforts through manufacturing engineering analysis, implementation, and leadership.
  • Respond to production issues in a timely manner and provide hands-on support to diagnose and resolve manufacturing problems.
  • Lead failure analysis, root cause investigation, and corrective action implementation for product and process nonconformances.
  • Develop, document, and implement manufacturing process updates to improve safety, quality, throughput, and cost.
  • Recommend and support design improvements to enhance manufacturability, assembly efficiency, reliability, and producibility.
  • Communicate manufacturing issues, process changes, improvement plans, risks, and technical status to the appropriate departments, the Division Head of Integrated Product Support, and senior leadership.
  • Provide documentation for manufacturing support, work instructions, process flows, and engineering changes.
  • Support the development and release of technical data packages, manufacturing methods, and production documentation for new and existing designs.
  • Drive configuration management philosophy in products and manufacturing processes.
  • Estimate production and cost impacts for manufacturing changes, process improvements, and design updates.
  • Lead a team of 5–10 cross-discipline engineers in support of production issue response, technical problem solving, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Coordinate and prioritize production support activities across multiple issues, products, and functional teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Lead cross functional efforts to resolve recurring production issues and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Support planning and execution of manufacturing readiness, process improvement, and production risk reduction activities.
