Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programming

Laborup•Milford, CT
•$100,000 - $130,000

About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer will join an established precision manufacturing operation supporting the aerospace and defense industries. This highly hands-on role focuses on CNC programming, new product introduction (NPI), process development, and improving machining operations in a high-mix manufacturing environment. The engineer will take new components from print through production by developing machining strategies, proving out programs, and working directly with machinists to resolve technical challenges. Strong Mastercam experience, particularly for complex CNC turning applications, is central to the role.

Requirements

  • Strong background in CNC machining, manufacturing engineering, or CNC programming within a precision machine shop.
  • Proficiency in Mastercam programming.
  • Strong experience programming CNC lathes and turning centers.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), process development, and taking new parts from print through production.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC setups, program prove-outs, tooling selection, and machining troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, workholding, and fixture design.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and tight-tolerance specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work directly on the shop floor.

Nice To Haves

  • CNC milling experience.
  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, or similarly demanding precision manufacturing environments.
  • Manufacturing Engineering degree; equivalent hands-on machining and programming experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, program, and optimize CNC machining processes using Mastercam, with a strong emphasis on CNC turning applications.
  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, taking new components from initial engineering review through successful production.
  • Create CNC programs, select tooling, develop workholding solutions, and establish efficient machining strategies.
  • Work hands-on with machinists to prove out new programs, troubleshoot setups, and resolve machining issues.
  • Develop manufacturing processes for complex, tight-tolerance aerospace and defense components.
  • Review engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications to determine optimal manufacturing methods.
  • Support first article inspections (FAI) and ensure new processes meet quality and dimensional requirements.
  • Improve existing machining processes to reduce cycle times, scrap, tooling costs, and production inefficiencies.
  • Develop and maintain setup sheets, work instructions, tooling documentation, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve technical challenges and improve overall shop performance.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
