About The Position

This position works daily on site out of our Irving, TX location in the Core Diagnostics Business Unit. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people. The person hired will provide process engineering support functions to manufacturing operations and new and existing products, processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools. In addition, they will develop, implement and maintain manufacturing systems/equipment in accordance with site quality system and good engineering practices. They will also provide accurate and timely resolution of issues and provides engineering support and project management for new manufacturing process equipment. They will also be responsible for sustaining manufacturing engineering work, including pFMEA government and manufacturing process risk management, Camstar and ADMS manufacturing support, and ACP Operations. In addition, if hired you will be: Designing sub-assemblies to meet broad design goals, establish requirements and specification. Using empirical, numerical and experimental analysis to analyze designs. Designing hardware to support features that are contained in the product definition to include design specifications, circuit designs, technology selection recommendations, etc. Evaluating and selecting appropriate components and technologies for parts and lowering level subassemblies. Utilizing and developing knowledge and experience to define experimental, empirical and numerical analyses to evaluate designs. Selecting test methods and simulation models to mitigate design risks and ensure new design reliability for components. Remaining abreast of technical advancements and continually develops skills. Documenting custom product, tools, fixtures, prototypes with specifications, schematics and layouts to support document control and tool release. You will be involved in test method and model development. Constructs a variety of prototypes, tools, and fixtures used for research and/or development purposes. Helping establish processes based on product specifications and evaluates process and design alternatives based on "design for manufacturability. Appling theoretical principles, evaluation, ingenuity and creative / analytical techniques within engineering and scientific principles. Troubleshooting, investigating and resolving problems involving techniques, materials, equipment, part and sub-assembly design; documents justification or rationale as needed. Providing input into dFMEA, pFMEA and risk analyses. Identifies and mitigates sub-assembly risks. Consistently meeting timelines for engineering tasks. You will have strong organization, follow-up and attention to detail. Supporting improvement of products, processes, and/or design tools to be employed for investigation and design development. Leading and participating in technical design reviews. Writing, reviewing and assessing impact of engineering changes. Appling engineering and scientific principles to evaluate and solve technical problems; documents justification or rationale as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related STEM field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum 3 years Engineering experience in product / process development and technical design.
  • Ability to apply statistics and analytical thinking.
  • Technical knowledge and expertise of subsystems, design protocols, and problem-solving tools.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skill
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to go on international travel (it is possible up to 5%)

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of experience in: dFMEA, pFMEA and risk analysis.
  • At least 1 year of experience in Camstar and ADMS manufacturing support, and ACP Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process engineering support functions to manufacturing operations and new and existing products, processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools.
