About The Position

Canplas is seeking a permanent full-time Manufacturing Engineer to join their team in Barrie, ON. This role involves leading capital and process improvement initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and operational performance. The position offers a dynamic, hands-on environment with opportunities in automation, continuous improvement, and innovation across multiple plant operations.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related field)
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience with project coordination or project management
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or similar CAD tools
  • Understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and levels
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between local sites as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or actively working toward certification
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling tools
  • Exposure to automation or capital equipment projects
  • Familiarity with plastics manufacturing or similar processes
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end engineering projects, including analysis, vendor selection, installation, commissioning, and production readiness
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize manufacturing processes, equipment performance, and overall plant efficiency
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, quality, and external partners to execute projects and resolve technical challenges
  • Develop and maintain project plans, budgets, and timelines, ensuring successful and timely delivery
  • Support plant layout design, workflow optimization, and ergonomic improvements
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and cost performance across manufacturing operations
  • Act as a change agent, supporting the adoption of new technologies and processes
