About The Position

This position will systematically identify, plan, and drive continuous improvement activities in various areas of organization in CNC machining. In this technical role, you will have frequent communication and collaboration with machine operators and engineering. You will utilize your manufacturing background in the following areas: process development, fixture design and manufacture, act as lead engineer to drive CNC process development and capability, review part design to ensure alignment with process capability, set clear goals for results and provide timely reviews of performance, establish validation procedures to determine acceptance of processes into production, review supplier tool design, process flow, equipment selection, and machining parameters DFM. You will also identify shortfalls and corrective actions to ensure design compliance, map out process development, secure resources, and commit to schedules in line with program goals.

  • Requires knowledge of machining tools, like form cutters, tool holders, end mills, etc.
  • Experience machining parts from start to finish using manual or programmed turning and milling operations is highly desirable, as well as experience fabricating parts or jigs, fixtures, tooling, plastics, machine shop (CNC, mills, lathes, drilling, tapping).
  • Needs high level of knowledge in programming mills and lathes for complex parts with small tolerances.
  • Needs a strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of efficient work holding techniques and strong knowledge of machine functions (G-codes, M-codes, work offsets, etc.).
  • Needs familiarity with production machining practices for cutting aluminum, steel, and titanium, and knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Requires experience in use of calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, height gauges, etc., and experience with machine types such as lathe, lathe with live tooling, and 3, 4, and 5 axis mills.
  • Need proven understanding of DOE, GD&T, SPC, and mechanical fabrication techniques.
  • Needs understanding of high feed milling, high speed machining, high performance machining, and mill turn concepts in CNC.
  • Requires an ability to set-up and troubleshoot CNC processes and provide corrective actions.
  • Requires experience with cutting tool design and constraints and experience with DFM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback to industrial or product design teams to optimize a design for CNC.
  • 2+ years CAD modeling experience is required.
  • 2+ years CNC programming with NX software experience is desired.
  • CAD experience for part and fixture design and CAM experience for programming 3 axis parts on mills or lathes up to 4 and 5 axis is required.
  • Requires knowledge in writing machine tool post processor files for turning and milling machines.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience machining parts from start to finish using manual or programmed turning and milling operations is highly desirable
  • Experience fabricating parts or jigs, fixtures, tooling, plastics, machine shop (CNC, mills, lathes, drilling, tapping)
  • Experience with Renishaw tool probes and probe programming is a plus
  • Siemens NX experience is preferred for CAD/CAM
  • 2+ years CNC programming with NX software experience is desired

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a complete machine process by selecting appropriate tools and holders, executing NC programming, verifying tool path, and defining part set-up.
  • Participate and lead in manufacturing process improvement projects to reduce duration and cost of machining processes.
  • Support and lead strategic projects to bring new manufacturing capabilities into the facility through new equipment or modernization of existing equipment.
  • Determine the most economic manufacturing processes, operation sequence, and tooling.
  • Create instructions for machinists.
  • Identify and address CNC machine issues related to the product quality.
  • Use six sigma and other manufacturing programs to drive continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with shop floor personnel to drive continuous improvement and to improve efficiency.
  • Work closely with engineering personnel to improve automation efficiency and design.
  • Work closely with quoting department to develop bid proposals and scope of work to be performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
