About The Position

This role involves analyzing product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine the best production methods using existing manufacturing processes. The engineer will create, implement, and troubleshoot CNC programs, and determine the feasibility of designing new tooling or equipment. Responsibilities include conferring with vendors, estimating production times and costs, and developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods to enhance production levels, reduce costs, and improve quality and safety. The position requires strong competencies in analysis, design, problem-solving, change management, business and cost consciousness, strategic thinking, planning, quality, quantity, and safety.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, machine drawings, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations.
  • Possess knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software, CAD and CAM programming software such as Solidworks, MasterCam, and Part Maker or other manufacturer software.
  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision and Depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • Associates degree in Manufacturing Technology plus a minimum 3 years' of manufacturing experience in a machine shop environment or at least 5 years of process engineering/programming experience in a machine shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine the best method for production using existing manufacturing processes.
  • Creates, implements, and troubleshoots CNC programs for new parts start-ups using MasterCAM or Part Maker or alternate.
  • Determines feasibility of designing new tooling or equipment considering costs, time limitations, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Is knowledgeable regarding processes such as anodizing, chromate, heat treat, grinding, etc.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods for maintaining or increasing production levels while improving production costs, yields, quality, and safety.
