About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking a Manufacturing Floor Support Engineering II to support the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at their Anniston, AL facility. This position will report onsite in support of production, business, and other processes in a team-based manufacturing environment. The selected candidate will spend most of their time, up to 90%, on the shop floor resolving manufacturing-related issues and providing technical support on a variety of technical tasks across two main areas: Fabrication and Assembly. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will provide floor support to these areas, including: Fabrication: providing engineering support for welding fabrication processes, troubleshooting welding issues, and implementing process improvements to optimize production workflows. Assembly: supporting assembly line operations, resolving issues related to production workflows, equipment, and processes, and implementing improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering or Technical discipline i.e. weld engineering or weld engineering technology) and two years of related experience, or overall equivalent.
  • Can work independently with minimal guidance
  • Effective communication skills
  • Capable of working with current computer applications, CAD programs, and 3D model manipulation
  • Ability to solve technical problems that require a professional level of engineering knowledge and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to interface with customer (both internal and external)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with assembly line operations and garage maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities is a plus
  • Hands-on floor support experience, working with shop employees
  • Experience in root cause/corrective action- preventive action
  • Knowledge of Engineering concepts, practices, drawing standards, procedures, and processes
  • Basic knowledge of inspection processes is a plus
  • Practice of lean / 6 sigma concepts as applied to manufacturing is a plus
  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial weld standards is a plus
  • Knowledge of drilling / machining operations a plus

Responsibilities

  • Providing engineering support for welding fabrication processes in the manufacturing of combat products
  • Applying basic knowledge of the design of organization's products and technology to solve moderately complex and clearly defined engineering problems. Selecting the best method or process from several existing alternatives
  • Analyzing and interpreting design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements
  • Developing concepts, design change recommendations, rework/ repair instructions
  • Supporting standard and non-standard weld repairs as necessary
  • Recommending process changes and implementing process improvements
  • Investigating root cause/corrective actions for fabrication and assembly-related issues
  • Developing and making revisions to existing documentation, providing input for technical documentation, papers, and presentations / may deliver technical presentations
  • Applying basic lean/six sigma principles to drive improvements to production processes
