This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our Pumps Manufacturing Engineering team at Blue Origin. This role will lead the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for internally fabricated pumps critical to lunar missions and space exploration systems. The ideal candidate will bridge design engineering and production operations by translating pump design requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes while providing ongoing technical support to production teams. You will drive design for manufacturability (DFM) initiatives, develop manufacturing documentation, and ensure production readiness for complex pump assemblies used in Lunar vehicles. This position requires deep technical expertise in pump manufacturing combined with strong operational support capabilities to enable reliable, high-quality production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering, preferably with rotating equipment or fluid systems
  • 5+ years of experience creating detailed work instructions and manufacturing documentation
  • Experience with precision manufacturing processes (machining, assembly, testing)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Must be able to work second shift and have flexibility to move shifts as needed.
  • Open to work extended hours if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing engineering experience with pumps, fluid systems, or rotating equipment in aerospace or high-reliability industries
  • Hands-on experience with pump assembly, testing, and validation processes
  • Knowledge of pump design principles, fluid dynamics, and performance testing requirements
  • Experience with Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) or similar critical fluid systems
  • Understanding of precision manufacturing requirements for pump components (tolerances, surface finishes, material compatibility)
  • Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) and production transition for complex mechanical systems
  • Proficiency with PLM/MRP systems (Teamcenter, Windchill) and manufacturing execution systems
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies (CNC machining, additive manufacturing, automated assembly)
  • Familiarity with pump testing equipment and validation procedures
  • Strong foundation in GD&T, manufacturing process development, and quality control systems
  • Experience supporting design reviews and manufacturing readiness assessments
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent process improvement training
  • Master's degree in relevant engineering field
  • Project management experience with cross-functional manufacturing teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead industrialization of pump designs from development through production readiness, creating manufacturing processes for pump components, assemblies, and testing procedures
  • Develop detailed work instructions, process flows, tooling specifications, and inspection plans specific to pump fabrication and assembly operations
  • Collaborate with design engineering to optimize pump designs for manufacturing feasibility, cost, and quality during design reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR)
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and process optimization support to production teams, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for pump manufacturing issues
  • Design and specify manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and assembly equipment required for pump production operations
  • Conduct process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation activities for new pump manufacturing lines and equipment
  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency gains, and quality enhancements in pump manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate and deploy new manufacturing technologies (precision machining, additive manufacturing, automated assembly) for pump production applications
  • Ensure all pump manufacturing processes meet aerospace quality standards (AS9100) and Blue Origin requirements
  • Work closely with design engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams to support pump production schedules and resolve manufacturing challenges
