This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. We are seeking a dynamic Manufacturing Engineer to join our Operations team at Blue Origin. This role will lead the design and implementation of efficient manufacturing systems, ensure stringent quality control throughout production, and optimize supply chain logistics specific to Production/Operations. The ideal candidate will be results-driven, skilled in resource management, and committed to high-quality standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations, reduce costs, and enhance production timelines. By leveraging advanced technologies and methodologies, you will contribute to improving manufacturing techniques, ensuring Blue Origin's continued innovation and excellence in aerospace engineering. We are returning humankind to the Moon — to stay. Keeping a crew alive on a multi-day lunar mission means engineering the air they breathe and the water they use, and the Environmental Control & Life Support (ECLS) system does exactly that. As a Manufacturing Engineer III on the MK2 ECLS team, you own the manufacturing scope for the air and water treatment elements — partnering with the program chemists and responsible engineers who develop them to carry each one from the bench into qualified, AS9100-compliant production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role.
  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing process development — maturing a process from development into qualified, repeatable production.
  • Experience working in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of experience creating English work instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and resolve manufacturing risks and drive process improvements.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in chemical manufacturing — sorbents, catalysts, coatings, or related chemical/materials processes.
  • Experience with production quality management systems and transitioning products from development to production, including participation in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing readiness frameworks (MRLs, PRLs) and industry standards (AS6500 or similar).
  • Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) tools (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill).
  • Strong foundation in Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA) and manufacturing process development.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, root-cause/corrective-action, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent technical project management skills with the ability to coordinate cross-functional initiatives — including scheduling, planning, and logistics for process qualification.
  • Experience developing automated workflows, templates, and standardized systems or processes.
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification.
  • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting technical information to leadership and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Mature chemical/sorbent processes from development concept into qualified, repeatable production — translating engineering requirements into robust manufacturing processes.
  • Plan Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs) and assess Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs) and Production Readiness Levels (PRLs) as designs move from initial release to first build.
  • Proactively identify and resolve manufacturing risks and drive process improvements.
  • Author and maintain standard manufacturing documentation — including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and inspection plans — to enable rapid, repeatable execution.
  • Provide Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) support, partnering with program engineers, design engineers, and responsible engineers to influence designs early for producibility.
  • Ensure all work aligns with applicable quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001), supporting a safe and sustainable future in space.
  • Own the quality and non-conformance loop. Lead root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances and develop corrective actions that enhance reliability and performance.
  • Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment.
  • Gain deep expertise in chemical/sorbent process development, with the desire to broaden impact across ECLS manufacturing.
  • Identify and complete opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction, optimizing our ability to achieve our mission at scale.
