About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving manufacturing processes by analyzing and optimizing operations to increase efficiency, quality, and safety. This role combines manufacturing and mechanical engineering functions and supports continuous improvement initiatives across Ohio Gratings. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, Safety, and Maintenance to identify improvement opportunities, validate solutions through testing and analysis, and implement sustainable changes that align with Lean manufacturing principles. Requirements

  • Proficient in Solidworks and AutoCAD.
  • Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S principles.
  • Capable of conducting and analyzing time studies and process capability tests.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Able to manage a project from inception to completion.
  • Effective communication skills; able to collaborate with various departments.
  • Organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Hands-on approach with a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with process improvement responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Improve how things are made by analyzing processes, equipment, and workflows to drive efficiency, quality, and safety gains.
  • Lead Lean and Six Sigma initiatives that deliver measurable operational improvements.
  • Take ownership of capital equipment projects from concept through installation and startup.
  • Map and redesign value streams, plant layouts, and material flow for maximum efficiency.
  • Use data-driven time studies to establish baselines and validate improvements.
  • Design practical tooling, fixtures, and workstations that improve production performance.
  • Lead problem-solving efforts to uncover root causes and implement lasting solutions.
  • Build and maintain clear process documentation, including standard work and flow diagrams.
  • Test and validate improvements through pilot runs and controlled trials.
  • Monitor key performance metrics such as throughput, downtime, scrap, and efficiency.
  • Support production teams with hands-on troubleshooting and technical guidance.
  • Champion 5S and continuous improvement across all areas of the plant.
  • Take on additional responsibilities to support operational excellence.
