Job Summary Join Caterpillar's Electric Power Division as a Manufacturing Engineer supporting the production of Caterpillar Switchgear. In this role, you will drive automation, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives within a highly technical manufacturing environment. Working alongside operations, quality, and engineering teams, you'll leverage manufacturing technology, data analytics, and automation solutions to improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field OR equivalent manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of techniques and processes of automation; ability to develop and deploy automation solutions to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluates manufacturing operations to identify automation and process improvement opportunities.
  • Implements and supports automation technologies to enhance manufacturing efficiency and productivity.
  • Analyzes manufacturing data to measure performance and drive fact-based decision making.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to solve complex manufacturing challenges through automation and innovation.
  • Working knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Applies an assigned technique for critical thinking in a decision-making process.
  • Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas.
  • Participates in documenting data, ideas, players, stakeholders, and processes.
  • Recognizes, clarifies, and prioritizes concerns.

  • Explains issues and considerations of implementing lean in own function or area.
  • Selects and utilizes tools, techniques and measurements associated with a lean assessment.
  • Explains benchmarks and measures of effectiveness of lean.
  • Working knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
  • Assesses associated phases, activities, deliverables and processes.
  • Documents relevant standards, policies and practices.
  • Follows standard manufacturing processes to conduct production activities.
  • Researches new technologies to be integrated into existing manufacturing process.
  • Explains tools, techniques and documents used for process monitoring and control.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations, production processes, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, process documentation, or manufacturing specifications.
  • Experience utilizing data to analyze manufacturing performance and support problem-solving.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electrical control panel manufacturing and the ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience applying automation, PLCs, robotics, or digital manufacturing technologies to improve manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency with Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, or other manufacturing analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated success leading process improvement, manufacturing optimization, and capital project initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with a track record of driving operational improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Drive automation and digital manufacturing initiatives that improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead process improvement projects focused on manufacturing throughput, equipment performance, and production velocity.
  • Design and optimize manufacturing processes, assembly lines, and automated systems to support business growth and operational excellence.
  • Utilize data analytics tools, including Power BI and Power Platform applications, to identify trends, measure performance, and support decision-making.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to solve complex manufacturing challenges and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Support automated equipment, controls, robotics, and emerging manufacturing technologies to enhance operational capabilities.
  • Manage manufacturing engineering projects from concept through implementation, including capital investments and process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing standards, procedures, documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Apply critical thinking and engineering expertise to identify opportunities for innovation, cost reduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Support future-state manufacturing strategies through automation, standardization, and workforce cross-training initiatives.
