Manufacturing Engineer

GE Aerospace•Lynn, MA
•$92,000 - $110,000

About The Position

Support manufacturing processes that turn formed sheet metal into flight-critical jet-engine hardware, including forming, resistance and TIG welding, brazing, heat treat, and machining. The role is based in Plant 2, which makes sheet metal fabricated parts for jet engines, primarily combustors as well as fuel nozzles and other parts. Work directly with operators, Quality, and senior engineers on the shop floor to keep production flowing, resolve process problems, and prevent defects from escaping. Follow standard work and established procedures while adjusting priorities as production needs change. The work directly affects product quality, delivery, and team success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of Manufacturing/Production experience.
  • Ability to meet U.S. Person status requirements for access to U.S. export-controlled information: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or granted asylee or refugee status.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in manufacturing or production.
  • Experience with CNC machining, resistance welding, TIG welding, vertical or horizontal lathe, milling, heat treat, brazing, or fabrication.
  • Knowledge of process control, improvement and escape prevention, technical requirements and process control, GD&T, blueprint reading, problem solving, or lean manufacturing.
  • Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, and eager to learn.
  • Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, and contributes constructively.
  • Focused: quick learner who strategically prioritizes work and is committed.
  • Leadership ability, including strong communication, decision-making, and collaboration.
  • Problem-solving ability, including analytical thinking, challenging existing processes, and critical thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on engineering support to combustor and nozzle production, responding to shop-floor issues, assisting operators, and keeping parts moving through fabrication, welding, brazing, heat treat, and machining.
  • Help maintain and improve process documentation, including work instructions, operation sheets, and setup sheets, to ensure alignment with current engineering requirements and drawings.
  • Support process control for resistance spot and seam welding, TIG welding, brazing, and heat treat by monitoring parameters, verifying setups, and flagging deviations from specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T for sheet metal assemblies, and help resolve fit-up, distortion, weld quality, and dimensional problems.
  • Support nonconformance and quality-escape investigations by collecting data, helping identify root causes, and carrying out corrective and preventive actions within established procedures.
  • Participate in lean and continuous-improvement projects, including standard work, 5S, setup reduction, and flow improvement, to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Production, Materials, Tooling, and senior Manufacturing Engineers, and understand how work in the assigned area connects to upstream and downstream operations.
  • Make decisions within the defined scope and escalate technical issues outside established parameters to senior engineers.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to operators and cross-functional partners, and train or guide junior team members as needed.
  • Follow and promote EHS requirements and safe work practices in a fabrication environment.
