About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer turns what a customer needs into what our production floor builds. You will convert customer drawings, sketches, physical samples, and templates into accurate CAD drawings, production prints, and CNC programs. Those programs run the machines that cut, grind, and drill each glass part to specification. You will guide new parts from prototypes to full production, set up part information in our ERP system, and train machine operators on new or changed processes. You will also play an active role in our ISO 9001 quality system, including document control, corrective action, and internal audits. This role sits at our Niles, Michigan location and supports both the Antwerp, OH and Niles, MI plants.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of 2D CAD experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and production systems.
  • Experience using an ERP system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to work with Sales, Production, Quality, and customers.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Professional conduct and the ability to handle confidential customer and company information.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to our Antwerp, OH facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong 2D CAD skills in Autodesk Inventor.
  • CNC programming experience; glass fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Quality or inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, including familiarity with ISO 9001.
  • Knowledge of PPAP.
  • Experience with Infor Visual ERP.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Sales and customers to develop new glass shapes and parts, from prototype through production launch, and advise on what can be manufactured reliably.
  • Reverse-engineer customer-supplied sample parts and physical templates to capture CAD data and introduce new parts or product lines at both plants.
  • Create, revise, and control detailed 2D and 3D part and assembly drawings in CAD from customer drawings, sketches, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Prepare and release the production prints both plants use to manufacture each part.
  • Write, test, and debug CNC programs for the glass cutting tables, edge grinding machines, drilling machines, and CNC machining centers on the production floor.
  • Design and maintain physical product templates used for Production and Maintenance.
  • Train and mentor machine operators on new programs, processes, and changes.
  • Develop and maintain drafting standards and procedures.
  • Enter and maintain part and engineering information in our ERP system (Infor Visual) for both plants.
  • Support our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Prepare and control quality documents and maintain the index of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Serve on the Corrective Action Team, help investigate problems, and maintain corrective action logs.
  • Trace customer rejections back to the original purchase order and help communicate return (RMA) information to the customer.
  • Support PPAP and first article inspection submissions when customers require them.
  • Serve as an internal auditor as needed.
