About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer will provide manufacturing engineering leadership for a new model development program, from initial concept through handoff to the launch team. The role is part of Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering’s Final Assembly Engineering Program Development Teams, which handle future model strategy, planning, and costing and transition programs to implementation by Manufacturing Program Teams. The position applies lean manufacturing principles to develop high-quality, efficient processes and products. It involves developing tooling and facilities based on product and process needs, supporting virtual manufacturing assembly builds, resolving manufacturing issues, and coordinating with Design and Release activities. The engineer develops formal assembly process instructions and enters process sheets into the VPS system, leads assembly tooling specification, tracks tooling and process issues through closure, and ensures exit-criteria deliverables such as cycle time, throughput, and workstation readiness are met. The role also prepares management presentations, drives quality, cost, and labor improvements, and delivers cycle line layouts while coordinating with assembly plants to prepare operator and equipment workstations for launch. The position requires working within stressful situations and timing constraints, with minimal direct supervision, and travel to support launch activities at North American assembly plants.
