Manufacturing Engineer, Vehicle Assembly

Mach Industries•Huntington Beach, CA
•$105,000 - $180,000•Onsite

About The Position

Mach Industries is seeking Manufacturing Engineers to develop and launch the Vehicle Assembly processes for our autonomous defense vehicles. You will own the processes, stations, and tooling for an assigned area of the assembly line. You'll take that area from late-stage prototype builds to full-rate production at Mach's Forge factories, with high first-pass yield at target cycle times. You will own launch readiness for your area. Your stations, tooling, work instructions, parts, and equipment must be ready for each build. You'll work directly with Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Packaging Engineering, Material Flow, and Automation and Equipment Engineering to close gaps before they affect production. You'll also work closely with the Lead Manufacturing Engineer, Vehicle Assembly, and with Build Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Quality, and Factory Design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial and Systems, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Manufacturing Engineer: 0 to 4 years. Internships, co-ops, and hands-on engineering projects (such as Formula SAE) count.
  • Senior Manufacturing Engineer: 5+ years, including at least one production launch.
  • Understanding of assembly process design, cycle-time analysis, line balancing, ergonomics, and error-proofing.
  • Hands-on experience with assembly processes, tools, fixtures, or shop-floor equipment.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and process capability.
  • Working knowledge of PFMEA, SPC, and structured problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Siemens NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks).
  • Ability to keep commitments, follow up with partner teams, and raise problems early.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in high-rate automotive, aerospace, or defense assembly.
  • Experience supporting a new product launch or production ramp.
  • Experience with conveyance, automated assembly cells, or controls.
  • Experience with manufacturing process planning tools (such as Heliux, DELMIA, or EasyPlan) and MES platforms.
  • Knowledge of PMTS methods and NIOSH ergonomic standards.
  • Experience creating layouts in AutoCAD.
  • Experience with discrete-event simulation software (such as Simio, Simul8).
  • Lean Six Sigma training or certification.
  • Experience working in an ITAR-controlled environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own launch readiness for your assigned stations or line section, from late-stage prototype builds through full-rate production. Track open items against the launch schedule, and report status to the Lead Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Work directly with partner teams to make sure your area is ready for each build: Design Engineering: resolve manufacturability issues and track engineering changes that affect your stations. Supply Chain: confirm part availability and supplier quality for your area. Packaging Engineering and Material Flow: confirm that containers, lineside part presentation, and part delivery are in place. Automation and Equipment Engineering: confirm that equipment and tooling for your area are built, installed, and accepted on schedule.
  • Raise risks early and escalate them with a proposed solution. Put temporary workarounds in place when needed to protect the build.
  • Review parts and assemblies for manufacturability (DFM/A), and recommend changes that reduce part count, simplify assembly, and prevent errors.
  • Prepare and present your area's content in virtual builds, including assembly sequence, hand and tool clearance, tolerance concerns, and part presentation.
  • Develop the process for your area, including build sequence, station content, line balance, and cycle time.
  • Estimate cycle times using predetermined motion time systems (e.g. MODAPTS).
  • Design or specify fixtures, hand tools, lift assists, and fastening equipment. Define process requirements for the conveyance and automated cells in your area.
  • Update station layouts with Factory Design, and set lineside part-presentation requirements with Packaging Engineering and Material Flow.
  • Support equipment cost estimates and requests for quote (RFQs). Take part in vendor design reviews, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT) for equipment in your area.
  • Support prototype builds and manufacturing trials, including prototype tooling, and apply lessons learned to the production process.
  • Write and release work instructions and quality gates in the manufacturing execution system (MES), and help train technicians on new processes.
  • Provide daily floor support during builds and ramp. Track first-pass yield, OEE, and cycle time for your area, and fix issues quickly.
  • Use SPC, PFMEA, and structured problem-solving (8D, DMAIC, 5 Whys) to improve quality and throughput.
  • Own launch readiness for a full line section or subassembly line, and give go/no-go input for each build.
  • Lead DFM/A reviews and virtual builds for your section.
  • Lead equipment projects for your section from requirements through SAT, working with Automation and Equipment Engineering.
  • Mentor engineers, review their process work, and lead improvement projects that span several areas.
