Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline, or significant related technical experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably high-volume automotive Tier 1 or Tier 2.
  • Basic understanding of CNC programming and manufacturing automation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD software (AutoCAD) for creating sketches, drawings, and technical illustrations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with corporate staff, vendors, customers, and plant employees.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and support cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of quality standards and certification processes (QS-9000, IATF 16949, ISO) preferred.
  • Experience supporting plant startups, new product launches, and high-volume manufacturing operations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and APQP process is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares routine engineering assignments, simple plans, designs, calculations, and reports to support manufacturing operations.
  • Conducts basic technical surveys, inspections, and assists in documenting findings.
  • Supports process documentation, including control plans, reaction plans, PFMEAs, and updates documents as new models are introduced.
  • Assists Supplier Quality and Manufacturing during ongoing production of new products and critical periods.
  • Collaborates with management, engineering, maintenance, and production staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and operational considerations for a three-shift facility.
  • Applies basic statistical methods to evaluate machinery and process capability.
  • Utilizes formal problem-solving techniques (8-Step, DOE, mistake-proofing) to identify issues and recommend corrective actions through designated channels.
  • Supports CNC program edits and troubleshoots basic programming issues as required.
  • Assists production with quality concerns by identifying root causes, developing action plans, and driving implementation.
  • Participates in plant layout planning, machinery placement, and material handling strategies.
  • Supports shop floor personnel training activities and pursues personal training for skill development.
  • Assists Manufacturing Engineers in tool trials, capability studies, and development of standardized supporting documents.
  • Helps develop and maintain Manufacturing Engineering Standards, templates, and documentation processes.
  • Supports APQP activities, line balancing, workstation content planning, and production documentation.
  • Assists in creating safety and ergonomics documentation for manufacturing processes.
  • Develops reports on scrap, Key Manufacturing Indicators (KMIs), and continuous improvement projects; presents weekly updates to management.
  • Ensures proper control, approval, release, and archiving of engineering documents, including CAD drawings and part numbering.
  • Supports Lean Manufacturing and MAFACT activities, process innovation initiatives, and cost-saving projects.
  • Conducts weekly and monthly Layered Process Audits (LPAs).
  • Supports Lessons Learned, Benchmarking, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supports monthly operational review reporting, MAFACT assessments, and IATF audits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  • Other tasks as defined by management.
