Manufacturing Engineer Intern

About The Position

This internship offers the opportunity to partner with team members from over 50 global manufacturing locations. Intern/Co-op opportunities can lead to full-time careers. During your time with us, you will develop new and improve current manufacturing processes concerning layout, work sequence, time studies, fixtures/tools/equipment, and material flow. You will support production line(s) with technical issues, working closely with front-line team members and Manufacturing Engineers. You will also work on various projects to develop skills in Manufacturing, focusing on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, & Morale. This includes using root cause analysis and countermeasure implementation for safety concerns or quality defects, brainstorming with Manufacturing Engineers and Production Supervisors to improve everyday tasks/processes, and providing support and analysis for special projects such as Kaizen activities, process flows, capital expenditures, safety initiatives, and facility move projects.

Requirements

Pursuing a degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or related field
Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks/projects at one time
Attention to detail and accuracy
MS Office experience – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Teachable, and willing / able to teach others
Ability to work in a fast paced & changing environment
Able to work individually and in a team environment
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

Understanding of JIT, Lean thinking, 5S principals, and Single Piece Flow.
CAD experience in SolidWorks, Draftsight, AutoCAD, or OnShape.
Able to read manufacturing & assembly drawings (welding symbols and GD&T a plus)

Responsibilities

Develop new and improve current manufacturing processes with regards to layout, work sequence, time studies, fixtures/tools/equipment, and material flow.
Support production line(s) with technical issues and work closely with front line Team Members and Manufacturing Engineers.
Work on various projects & requirements to develop skills in Manufacturing, spread throughout the categories of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, & Morale.
Use root cause analysis and countermeasure implementation in a group setting to assist with Safety concerns or Quality defects.
Brainstorm within groups of Manufacturing Engineers & Production Supervisors to improve everyday tasks/processes.
Provide support and analysis for special projects as assigned such as large-scale Kaizen activities, process flows, capital expenditures for equipment/machinery, Safety initiatives, facility move projects, etc.
