About The Position

Crane Aerospace and Electronics is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II for their Burbank, CA location. Crane Aerospace & Electronics provides critical systems and components to the aerospace and defense markets, with products found in various demanding environments from engines to medical implants. The Burbank facility, home to the Landing & Cabin Systems team, produces brake control systems and premium cabin actuation solutions for tens of thousands of aircraft globally. The Manufacturing Engineer II will support production and drive productivity savings projects, specifically within Crane's Machine Shop, focusing on sustaining and improving production from 5-axis milling machines. This role involves working independently in technical areas, with occasional support from the team, and interacting with processes such as turning, CAM, CAD, statistical process analysis, AS9145 documentation, MRB, and RCCA. Crane is committed to operational excellence, world-class processes, and Lean manufacturing techniques to optimize efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements

  • This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • 2+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer
  • Practical application knowledge of the theories of modern production principles and methods as applied to a high technology electronics design and manufacturing operation
  • Basic knowledge of material characteristics and processing, chemicals
  • Basic concepts of electrical systems, mechanical systems, fluids, and heat transfer
  • Able to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • BA or BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related field
  • Candidates must complete a satisfactory background check.
  • FAA sensitive positions require employees to participate in a random drug test pool.

Responsibilities

  • Study, analyze and design methods, procedures, processes, layouts, flow, fixtures and tooling as needed to support production
  • Investigate, recommend, and implement manufacturing cost reduction and product improvement programs
  • Identify root cause and corrective actions for manufacturing problems
  • Participate in customer specification and statement of work reviews
  • Participate in the review and evaluation of new product designs or design changes
  • Review and analyze design change requests initiated by manufacturing personnel to determine feasibility, validity, savings, effect on design, and to verify justification for change
  • Evaluate, test and select facilities, equipment and materials required for production in conjunction with Production Supervisors, Purchasing and other groups
  • Perform a variety of cost analyses, e.g., cost estimates for quotations or "make or buy" decisions
  • Develop manufacturing operating instructions
  • Develop and track manufacturing metrics to monitor the health of processes
  • Evaluate non-conformances as part of the Material Review Board
  • Direct work activities of production operators to aid in problem solving
  • Develop procedures and train assemblers and operators in machine operations, processes or assembly applications
  • Coordinate with vendors and customers
  • Identify and prioritize work with limited input from manager
  • Develop ROI or business case and present to management in the support of capital equipment, new product or process development and productivity improvements
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management
