About The Position

This co-op position involves assisting Manufacturing Engineers in various tasks related to product lifecycle management, process improvement, and documentation. The role requires accuracy, coordination, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively. The co-op will work in compliance with TS16949, ISO 14001, and OHSA standards, contributing to the company's goals for continuous improvement, cost savings, and efficient operations.

Requirements

  • College or university enrolment in mechanical engineering.
  • Supervisory and management skills: Interaction and communications, Company policies, Health and safety.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees in the organization.
  • Knowledge of assembly, tool-room, and press shop equipment.
  • Computer skills in databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Drafting and drawing skills (CadKey, AutoCad & other presentation software).
  • Ability to communicate technical information in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers to prepare and maintain manufacturing bills of materials for all products, ensuring 98% accuracy.
  • Track and coordinate with Scheduling, Tooling, and QC for the proper timing of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
  • Prepare and maintain the part-numbering system and assign part numbers to materials, components, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers in developing and maintaining plant and equipment layouts, manufacturing flow charts, process plans, production standards, and engineering reports.
  • Maintain all current, pending, and obsolete Engineering files, including systems, documents, drawings, specifications, vendor files, and databases.
  • Format, compile, and generate reports, graphs, correspondence, and computer files using word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Copy and distribute reports or forms.
  • Provide Manufacturing Engineering staff with performance indicators to monitor the effectiveness of continuous improvement efforts and cost-saving goals.
  • Take photos with a digital camera and upload them to the company network.
  • Develop and maintain operator instructions, presenting drafts for review and approval.
  • Coordinate the exchange of operator instructions for engineering changes.
  • Provide information and reports to assist management and supervisors in efficient operation and decision-making.
  • Advise Management of potential problems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain due diligence in regard to environmental matters and minimize accidents.
  • Follow environmental guidelines and job training requirements.
  • Comply with all legislative requirements of the OHSA and fulfill specific Health & Safety responsibilities.
