About The Position

The Manufacturing Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and managing costs associated with manufacturing operations. This role ensures accurate cost accounting, supports financial planning, and provides insights to improve operational efficiency and profitability. The position works closely with production, supply chain, and finance teams to maintain standard costing systems, analyze variances, and support strategic decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field
  • 3-7 years experience as a Cost Accountant in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with integrated ERP systems; Oracle, NetSuite, or similar
  • Understanding of standard costing and variance analysis
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
  • Understanding of BOMs, routings, and production workflows
  • Knowledge of GAAP and inventory accounting principles
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task and confidently perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong time-management skills to include execution to meet established deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information, draw logical conclusions, and make sound recommendations
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations / Assist with month-end close
  • Aid in the transition from average costs to standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead
  • Analyze manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead) and provide actionable insights
  • Analyze/maintain item master, bills of material (BOM) and routing changes for cost impact
  • Prepare monthly inventory valuations and reconcile inventory accounts
  • Monitor and report on cost of goods sold (COGS) and production costs
  • Partner with operations to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to manufacturing costs
  • Perform margin analysis and profitability reporting by product line or plant
  • Reconcile inventory subledger to general ledger and investigate discrepancies
  • Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle count programs
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and analysis
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Assist with annual external audit
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
