About The Position

STS Aerospace (Kreisler) in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, is seeking a manual TIG welder. The employee welds metal parts with gas welding equipment according to layouts, welding diagrams, or work instructions. The role includes preparing and positioning parts, selecting welding equipment and materials, setting up and operating the torch, producing and inspecting welds, and carrying out related repair, finishing, and cleaning work. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities

Position parts in jigs or fixtures on a bench or floor, or clamp parts together along layout marks.
Select the torch, torch tip, and filler rod according to welding chart specifications or the type and thickness of the metal.
Connect regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders and the welding torch.
Activate the gas flow, light the torch, and adjust the gas mixture and pressure to obtain the desired flame.
Hold the torch at the proper angle and guide it along the weld joint, applying filler rod to form the weld.
Examine welds for bead size and other specifications.
Repair broken or cracked metal objects, fill holes, and build up metal parts.
Preheat workpieces in a furnace or with a torch.
Lay out, position, and tack weld workpieces.
Weld along vertical or overhead weld lines.
Scarf or groove welds before applying filler metal.
Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
Clean or degrease parts.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
