About The Position

The Manual Spreader will spread and cut lays according to markers provided by Marker Making, maintains daily records of spreading. Keep workspace and equipment clean and well organized, performs proper preventive maintenance as required on any equipment being used. Follows all safety guidelines and uses required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required, Cuts fabric by hand, with electric hand-held cutting machines. Confers with the supervisor to obtain information about orders, processes, or problems.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment an asset
  • Experience in the garment industry
  • Understanding of numbers and measurements
  • Knowledge of apparel construction and mass production principles
  • Good command of English is required
  • Able to read markers and spread fabric to maximize fabric usage
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and works well under pressure
  • Strong initiative to consistently meet deadlines
  • Must have a strong work ethic with a proactive approach to the role
  • Detailed oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
  • Must be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision
  • Ability to comprehend and follow job safety guidelines
  • Skilled in the use of required spreading machines and electrical tools (straight knife cutter)
  • Excellent eyesight and the ability to detect subtle differences among rolls of fabric (shading)

Responsibilities

  • Take instructions from Supervisor.
  • Read cutting orders.
  • Check the cut information, ensure the styles and sizes are correct.
  • Check material (fabrics) if complete prior to spreading.
  • Check the required length of markers according to cutting orders.
  • Check each roll from the pick list if code and yardage are correct.
  • Check the cutting orders if it is scheduled on the daily cutting plan.
  • Make sure to follow priority schedule plan.
  • Fill up request form if fabric is short. Be sure to specify the kind of fabric needed and how many meters.
  • Make sure that cutting order is returned to the cutting plan table.
  • Report immediately to the Supervisor any issues.
  • Record completed cutting orders.
  • Label with lining, interlining and shell all excess materials (fabrics) for every MPO, and return to Warehouse.
  • Ensure a clean and safe workstation, and proper safety procedures are followed.
