Silgan Containers is hiring a Tool and Die Maker – Manual Machinist in Sacramento, California! Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two or more years of experience in tool and die making, manual machining, manufacturing, or a related industrial machining environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating manual machine tools, such as Bridgeport mills, lathes, or grinders.
  • Experience building, repairing, maintaining, or rebuilding dies, tooling, or precision mechanical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and machining specifications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and precision measurement skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture, repair, modify, refurbish, and rebuild dies, precision tooling, fixtures, and mechanical components for high-speed can-making machinery.
  • Operate manual machining equipment, including Bridgeport mills, manual lathes, grinders, and other conventional machine tools.
  • Perform precision machining and tool and die making using blueprints, mechanical drawings, and work instructions.
  • Set up and operate manual machine tools to produce parts and tooling to exact specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and machining specifications.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to inspect components and maintain tight manufacturing tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild gearboxes, pumps, and other industrial production equipment.
  • Perform welding, plasma cutting, and other fabrication tasks as needed for tooling and equipment repairs.
  • Calculate raw material requirements and select appropriate materials for machining and tooling projects.
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure tooling, dies, and machined components meet established specifications.
  • Catalog, organize, and maintain production tooling to improve accessibility, inventory control, and operational efficiency.
  • Support maintenance and production teams with tooling repairs, mechanical troubleshooting, and equipment improvements.
  • Operate CNC equipment, where required, to support tooling and machining activities.
  • Safely operate plant equipment, including forklifts, lifts, and booms, as needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
