About The Position

The Manual Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating manual Hardinge lathes, Bridgeport milling machines, and Grinders to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, threading, knurling, slots, and drilling and tapping using rotary tables and indexing heads. The role requires the ability to troubleshoot and develop fixtures and tooling for short-run jobs and CNC production runs, as well as tool grinding. The machinist must ensure all machined components meet blueprint specifications using appropriate measuring equipment and be capable of producing quality surface finishes while holding tight tolerances.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and work Over-Time when needed.
  • Technical school education or 5+ years minimum related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems using a common-sense approach.
  • Ability to interpret and carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Attention to detail and ability to deal with problems.
  • Ability to make decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, technical expertise, and care for employees, customers, and the workplace.
  • Ability to evaluate potential risk.
  • Ability to utilize sound judgment in critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to provide rationale for decisions, through both written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to utilize appropriate reference materials (employee handbook, policy and procedure manuals) to respond to situations.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and run various machines, such as Bridgeport Mills and Hardinge Lathes, medium-size lathes, surface grinders, and tool grinders.
  • Ensure all machined components produced meet Blueprint specifications by using appropriate measuring equipment, such as Micrometers, Vernier, Height Gauges, Bore Gauges, Comparators, Vision Systems, etc.
  • Select suitable tooling and cutters.
  • Read blueprints and sketches as well as take verbal instruction to determine machining to be done.
  • Make and repair fixtures and tooling for Production runs.
  • Produce quality surface finishes and hold tight tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot and work with engineers on various R&D projects.
  • Be flexible.
  • Inspect first run piece and spot check succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
