About The Position

Operate various manual machining tools and equipment to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, safety procedures, and the ability to work with various materials and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, plus trade school, vocational/technical school, military, or on-the-job training and/or certifications.
  • Ability to observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear (especially eye and ear protection).
  • Ability to record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results, including sizing’s and illustrations.
  • Ability to use measuring devices and techniques correctly to assure proper sizing’s.
  • Proficiency in performing milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring and conventional milling and lathe work, using various engine lathes (e.g., horizontal and vertical mills and horizontal boring mills).
  • Proficiency in performing various metalizing (metal spraying) and spray welding techniques as needed.
  • Understanding of materials and applications as required.
  • Proficiency in performing various welding operations, including setup and use of MIG, TIG, torch and stick welders.
  • Ability to set up and perform tool-post grinding operations (e.g., precision surface facing), broaching procedures, and Babbitt bearing work.
  • Ability to use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools, including but not limited to band saws, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, etc.
  • Ability to lift, tighten, adjust and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work and/or to observe safety precautions.
  • Willingness to assist other machinists and shop departments with skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor and shop manager.
  • Willingness to perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.
