About The Position

Operate various manual machining tools and equipment to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies. This role requires adherence to safety procedures, accurate data recording, and proficiency in various machining and welding techniques.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, plus trade school, vocational/technical school, military, or on-the-job training and/or certifications.
  • Ability to operate various manual machining tools and equipment.
  • Ability to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and use of protective gear.
  • Proficiency in recording data, including sizings and illustrations.
  • Skill in using measuring devices and techniques correctly.
  • Experience with milling operations (drilling, tapping, boring, conventional milling).
  • Experience with lathe work using various engine lathes.
  • Experience with metalizing (metal spraying) and spray welding techniques.
  • Understanding of materials and applications.
  • Experience with welding operations (MIG, TIG, torch, stick welders).
  • Ability to set up and perform tool-post grinding operations.
  • Ability to perform broaching procedures.
  • Ability to perform Babbitt bearing work.
  • Proficiency in using various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools.
  • Ability to lift, tighten, adjust, and/or secure heavy objects.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various manual machining tools and equipment.
  • Manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies.
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear.
  • Record all necessary data, including sizings and illustrations.
  • Use measuring devices and techniques correctly to assure proper sizing.
  • Perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring, and conventional milling.
  • Perform lathe work using various engine lathes (e.g., horizontal and vertical mills and horizontal boring mills).
  • Perform various metalizing (metal spraying) and spray welding techniques.
  • Understand materials and applications.
  • Perform various welding operations, including setup and use of MIG, TIG, torch, and stick welders.
  • Set up and perform tool-post grinding operations (e.g., precision surface facing).
  • Perform broaching procedures.
  • Perform Babbitt bearing work.
  • Use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools, including band saws, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, etc.
  • Lift, tighten, adjust, and/or secure heavy objects.
  • Assist other machinists and shop departments with skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor and shop manager.
  • Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.
