About The Position

The Manual Machinist Apprentice assists the machining department while learning the fundamentals of machining operations used in the repair and manufacturing of aviation components. The apprentice works under close supervision to develop skills in machine setup, measurement, tooling, and safe operation of machining equipment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty.
Entry level. Previous mechanical or manufacturing exposure is preferred but not required.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Basic shop math and measurement concepts.
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to safely use tools and equipment.

Nice To Haves

Previous mechanical or manufacturing exposure is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Assist experienced machinists with machine setup and preparation of parts for machining operations.
Load and unload parts from machines while ensuring proper handling of aviation components.
Measure finished and in-process workpieces using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
Perform deburring, cleaning, and preparation of parts before and after machining.
Replace dull cutting tools under supervision.
Assist in mounting and securing workpieces, fixtures, and tooling on machines.
Observe machine operations and report abnormal sounds, vibration, or tool wear.
Move materials, tools, fixtures, and equipment throughout the production area as required.
Maintain clean and organized work areas.
Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
Perform additional duties assigned to support production requirements.
