About The Position

The Manual Machine-Grinder will operate manual milling machines, lathes, and grinders safely and efficiently to produce quality products that meet production expectations. This role involves working closely with Quality Control for first piece approval and in-process inspection plans, and collaborating with programmers and engineers on technical issues. The position requires meticulous documentation, maintaining a clean work area, and contributing to continuous process improvement and the Quality Management System (QMS). Effective communication with supervisors regarding production, safety, and quality concerns is essential, as is adherence to FOD prevention protocols. The role emphasizes teamwork, proper handling of equipment and parts, and flexibility to assist in other departments as needed, such as assembly, cleaning, operator, CNC machining, tool management, and inspection. Maintaining a positive attitude, punctuality, and awareness of procedures, quality policies, and safety are key expectations.

Requirements

  • Ability to properly interpret drawings, work instructions and in-process inspection plans.
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • Knowledge to use measuring tools (Micrometers, Calipers, Thread gages, Bore gages, Indicators, Height gages, ID Micrometers, etc.).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using Bridgeport® and TREK® type mills, manual lathes and or manual surface and OD grinders.
  • Ability to learn Prototrak programming.
  • Have basic measuring tools (Caliper, Micrometer, Test Indicator, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Machine on manual milling machines, lathes, grinders in a manner that is safe, producing quality product and meeting production expectations set forth by management.
  • Work with QC to get first piece approved and in-process inspection plan in place.
  • Work with programmers and engineers for any technical issues or trouble shooting on components and fixtures, as needed.
  • Document work on in-process inspection plans and the ERP system as applicable to maintain traceability records.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Look for continuous improvement of processes and understand the contribution to the effectiveness of the QMS.
  • Communicate any concerns or issues related to production of parts, safety and quality to supervisor for particular machine or project.
  • Understand and be aware of FOD prevention and report any incidents to the department manager.
  • Be a team player in a team work environment.
  • Only use calibrated measuring equipment whether personal or company supplied. If not in proper calibration, notify quality department to have calibrated immediately.
  • Handle machines, inspection equipment, and parts in a manner that will not cause damage or change product integrity.
  • In the event of lack of work or another department needing assistance, you are expected to do any of the following, not limited to: Assembly, Cleaning, Operator, CNC Machining, Tool Management, Inspection.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and punctuality.
  • Aware of procedures, quality policies, objectives, contribution to conformance of product, safety and ethics.
