About The Position

Set up, operate, or tend Rotary Grinding Machines related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal work pieces. To grind all parts down to specified thickness per customer work order. Inspect and measure all raw and finished parts with calipers, and micrometers.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
  • A minimum 3 years work-related experience is required to qualify for this position, in addition to a minimum of 3 months to adapt to specific job itself.
  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate).

Nice To Haves

  • Professional, technical or administrative training; including knowledge of manufacturing methods and techniques, and a broad shop background in a recognized trade, equivalent to a complete accredited apprenticeship training and supervisorial training.
  • Less than a High School Diploma
  • An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect sample workpieces to verify conformance with specifications, using instruments such as gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Study job orders for information on specifications and tooling instructions, and to determine material requirements and operational sequences.
  • Adjust machine controls and change tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.
  • Move controls to set cutting speeds and depths and feed rates, and to position tools in relation to workpieces.
  • Start Grinders and observe operations to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Crank machines through cycles, stopping to adjust grinding wheel positions and machine controls to ensure specified timing, clearances, and tolerances.
  • Replace worn tools, grinding wheels and sharpen dull cutting tools and dies using bench grinders or cutter-grinding machines.
  • Compute unspecified dimensions and machine settings, using knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
  • Operator to verify all machines through start up protocol.
  • Turn machines on.
  • Check to make sure all magnets on chucks are off.
  • Check to make sure grinding wheels are in working condition.
  • Check to make sure Grinders are clean and in working condition.
  • Make sure 1st Shift Operator communicates to 2nd Shift Operator in order to inform Operator of daily schedule and any Special Instructions.
  • Have all the correct tools and micrometers to verify and approve all work.
  • Select the orders to be Ground according to White Board in Department (Supervisor instructions).
  • If there is no instructions from Supervisor follow the Due Date and Customer Weekly Schedule.
  • Verify the print matches the proper Job Traveler.
  • Always Verify Thickness after each grind, if Thickness is off please report to a Supervisor right away.
  • Key in all orders after completed, if the order is short/ Scrapped or not keyed in from previous operations report to Supervisor.
  • Make sure to Sign complete or partial on all Work Orders.
  • Move all complete orders to next station.
  • Do not double stack different customers’ orders on one cart.
