About The Position

The Manual Lathe Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual lathes to machine metal components and tubular products to specified dimensions and tolerances. The position primarily performs threading operations on API 8rd tubulars and uses blueprints, work instructions, measuring tools, and precision equipment to ensure parts meet quality and production requirements. The machinist is responsible for maintaining safe work practices, monitoring machine operation, identifying issues, and maintaining an organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes to machine parts and tubular products according to specifications, blueprints, work instructions, and production requirements.
  • Perform threading operations, primarily API 8rd threading, while maintaining required dimensions, tolerances, and thread specifications.
  • Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, inserts, and other machine tooling as needed.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to inspect work and verify dimensions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, measurements, and machining specifications.
  • Monitor machine operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain product quality and production requirements.
  • Inspect finished products for dimensional accuracy and quality and identify defects or machining issues.
  • Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and machining issues and perform basic equipment maintenance as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Inspect and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and participate in required safety and PPE training.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work practices, including the right and responsibility to stop work when a safety concern exists.
  • Communicate production, quality, equipment, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required by business needs.
