About The Position

Sigma Defense is seeking a Manual/CNC Machinist to join our team in Huntsville, AL. This role involves operating both manual and CNC machining equipment, reading and interpreting blueprints, generating G-code, and working with various materials. The position requires strong communication skills, the ability to lift 100 lbs, and familiarity with metalworking tools and machining accessories. The candidate will work in a shop environment with distractions and collaborate with engineers and other specialists. A U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance are required.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills are required.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry 100 Lbs.
  • Must be able to use metal working equipment, such as band saws, cutoff saws, hydraulic press, as well as other basic metal working tools.
  • Must be familiar with and capable of using manual machining accessories such as rotary table, steady rest, follow rest, etc.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Solidworks.
  • Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain an active Secret security clearance or higher.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Working experience using manual and hydraulic shears, breaks, and presses is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate both manual and CNC machining equipment including manual knee mill (JET), manual lathe (Cincinnati tray top), and 3 axis CNC with rotary table (Tormach).
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Generate G-code for CNC machining using Solidworks.
  • Set up CNC tooling in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, heights gauges, and other precision tools.
  • Hold tolerance within +/- 0.0025 when required on both manual and CNC equipment.
  • Machine aluminum, plastic, and stainless steel.
  • Work directly with engineers, physicists, and other specialists as required.
  • Work in a shop environment with many distractions such as welding, grinding, hammering, etc.
