About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Managing Scientist for its Biomechanics Practice in Philadelphia, PA or Natick, MA. This role involves working within a team to address complex technical issues for clients, often on urgent, high-profile, and multidisciplinary projects. The position offers the opportunity to engage with a variety of client types and needs, including human performance, health, and wellness technologies, consumer products, technology adoption in niche markets (clinical, military, elite sports), and digital health. A key aspect of the role includes executing consulting projects focused on human injury analyses, which may involve assessing the human body's response to forces during incidents or product interactions to determine injury potential, analyze injury causation, and explore mitigation strategies. The role also provides the chance to define and develop an individual consulting practice based on personal skills and interests.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Kinesiology, Movement Science, Physical Therapy, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience (post-graduate)
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Experience in using, and/or testing, and evaluating cutting edge technologies related to human performance, health, and wellness
  • Experience in computational programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB), with an emphasis in algorithm design/development and testing, signal processing, and back-end analytics modeling
  • Demonstrated experience in study design and associated statistical analyses
  • Demonstrated success in independently developing and managing client relationships
  • Outstanding reputation among clients for integrity, responsiveness, and technical expertise
  • Targeted business development plan for specific clients/sectors
  • Ability to attract projects to support full-time staff and to manage and develop a group of highly motivated individuals

Responsibilities

  • Attracting new clients and developing new business

  • Creating and using analytical tools
  • Synthesizing technical, biomechanical issues involving kinematics, dynamics, physiology, and data analytics (e.g., AI/ML)
  • Writing proposals to initiate and/or support existing and new opportunities in the human performance, health, and wellness technology sectors and in consumer products, digital health, and other related areas
  • Designing and executing human experiments to quantify and interpret explicit health, wellness, and performance characteristics within naturalistic movement environments
  • Conducting safety assessments pertaining to injury potential associated with the use and/or misuse of various consumer, medical, and industrial products
  • Using state-of-the-art analytical approaches to inform real-world technology and/or consumer product insights, as well as optimal technology integration strategies and approaches
  • Assisting in conducting research, publishing reports and papers in technical journals, and presenting findings at meetings and conferences
  • Managing projects with effective cost-control measures
  • Recruiting and developing the careers of junior staff
  • Actively participating in the Biomechanics Practice and assisting in marketing the group's technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community
