About The Position

Wisconsin Public Media seeks a Managing Producer to lead audio production for Wisconsin Life, a multiplatform collaboration of Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin. Wisconsin Life celebrates what makes Wisconsin unique through the diverse stories of its people, places, history and culture. This position will produce short-form audio feature stories while overseeing a pipeline of work from other producers and project contributors to ensure new content weekly for Wisconsin Public Radio. Strong writing and creative audio production skills, superb editorial judgment and the ability to manage multiple tasks on deadline is required. Some on-air hosting may also be required. This position will be based in Madison, WI and reports to the Executive Producer of Local Series at PBS Wisconsin. This is a full time, 40-hour-a-week position. This position is ongoing and renewable.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of audio storytelling experience. This includes the ability to engage in research and production on original audio stories from start-to-finish.
  • Demonstrated experience using strong editorial judgment to create content.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when creating and reviewing content.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience in collaborative settings.
  • Valid Driver’s License that meets UW Risk Management Standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with audio production tools, including Adobe Audition, ProTools, etc.
  • Experience giving constructive editorial and technical feedback to other producers and content creators.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring audio production and voiceover work across a wide range of skill levels.
  • Experience as an on-air host.
  • Experience with social media and web distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains familiarity with studio equipment and/or applicable technology for production
  • Directs, researches, and develops production strategy and/or creative and editorial processes and content for one or more programs across broadcast and digital platforms
  • May serve as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with other content creators in pre- to post-production processes
  • Develops and maintains reports of content evaluation and metrics for stakeholders
  • Oversees and/or performs daily operational activities for live and pre-produced content
  • May serve as back-up host or fill-in for producers when necessary
  • Directs and schedules the work of staff for production, development, and editing of content which may include identifying topics, themes, and/or guests, conducting pre-interviews or interviews, writing, and/or integrating content for multimedia platforms
